Kiambu Aquatics’ dedicated sports administrator Trizah Waithera has officially stepped onto the national stage after securing a position at Kenya Aquatics following a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process.
Her appointment marks a major milestone not only in her personal career journey but also for Kiambu Aquatics, where she has been instrumental in daily operations and brand growth.
A Competitive National Recruitment Process
The vacancy arose after former administrator Melvin Muyah exited the federation to pursue a new opportunity, with the full support of the Kenya Aquatics board.
To ensure transparency and professionalism, the federation engaged an independent human resource firm to oversee the recruitment. The response was overwhelming, attracting hundreds of applicants from various professional backgrounds, including candidates holding master’s degrees.
After a rigorous shortlisting and interview process, Trizah emerged as the top candidate.
Her academic training in secretariat studies combined with accounting, marketing, and communication skills gave her a competitive edge. However, what truly distinguished her was her hands-on experience within the swimming ecosystem.
Built Through Experience in Swimming Administration
Trizah’s journey has been deeply rooted in service to the sport. Over the years, she has volunteered in various federation roles, gaining practical insight into governance, competition management, and stakeholder coordination.
At Kiambu Aquatics, she was more than an administrator. She helped strengthen the association’s public image and played a key role in coordinating day-to-day activities. Her work significantly contributed to positioning Kiambu as one of Kenya’s most active and organized swimming regions.
National and Regional Event Experience
Trizah also brings valuable international and regional exposure. She has twice served as chaperone for the Kenya National Masters Swimming team during competitions in Uganda and Tanzania. Additionally, she was part of the organizing team for the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championships held at the Kasarani Aquatic Stadium.
Currently, she is serving as chaperone for the national masters team preparing for the 41st South Africa National Masters Swimming Championships in George this March. The team’s participation is self-funded, reflecting the dedication and resilience within Kenya’s masters swimming community.
Strong Governance and Legal Understanding
Beyond competitions, Trizah has demonstrated strong governance awareness. She understands the provisions of the Sports Act 2013 and has actively supported club registration processes to ensure compliance with national sports regulations.
Her communication expertise has also been evident in her management of Kiambu Aquatics’ digital platforms across Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram—tools that have strengthened engagement with athletes, parents, sponsors, and fans.
Kiambu Aquatics Reacts with Pride
Her departure from Kiambu Aquatics has been met with pride and emotion.
Hon. Secretary Dr. Douglas Okatso, speaking on behalf of the county fraternity, described her as hardworking and dedicated, noting that she leaves behind “big shoes to fill.” He termed her appointment a promotion and an elevation, urging her to serve all stakeholders fairly and without discrimination.
He further emphasized that Kiambu Aquatics remains committed to mentoring young professionals into sports leadership roles, positioning the county as a breeding ground for future sports administrators.
Aligned with Global Governance Trends
Globally, World Aquatics continues to encourage federations to professionalize their administrative structures to enhance governance, transparency, and athlete welfare.
Trizah’s appointment reflects this direction and signals Kenya Aquatics’ commitment to strengthening institutional capacity.
Immediate Assignment: National Championships 2026
Her first major assignment at the national office will involve supporting preparations for the Kenya National Swimming Championships, scheduled for February 13–15, 2026, at the Kasarani Aquatic Stadium.
With several key events lined up in the federation’s calendar, Trizah steps into the role at a crucial time for Kenyan swimming.
A New Chapter Begins
From county administration to national leadership, Trizah Waithera’s journey reflects dedication, professionalism, and steady growth within the sport. Her appointment stands as a testament to the growing emphasis on qualified sports administration in Kenya.
As she transitions to the national office, the swimming fraternity watches with confidence that her impact will be felt far beyond Kiambu.
