Drowning remains a serious water-safety concern, and raising awareness is an important step towards preventing avoidable tragedies. On 25 July 2026, the community will come together at Ruiru Beach, Kiambu County, for a powerful 12-Hour Drowning Awareness Challenge under the theme:
“Swimming to Raise Awareness and Prevent Drowning”
The initiative is designed to use swimming as a platform to educate communities about water safety, promote lifesaving skills, and encourage everyone to take an active role in preventing drowning.
12 Hours of Impact
The challenge will run for 12 hours, bringing together swimming, awareness, and community action in one impactful initiative. The continuous swimming challenge seeks to demonstrate the importance of swimming as an essential life skill while keeping the conversation around drowning prevention at the forefront.
Participants and supporters will be encouraged to stand together around a simple but powerful message:
Support the Cause. Be the Difference.
Building Awareness Around Water Safety
The campaign aims to:
- Spread awareness about drowning and water safety.
- Promote lifesaving skills and safe practices around water.
- Encourage communities to take water safety seriously.
- Demonstrate how every awareness effort can contribute to saving lives.
- Build safer communities for families and future generations.
Through education and community participation, the campaign seeks to remind everyone that water safety is everyone’s responsibility.
One Day. One Mission. Countless Lives Saved.
The 12-hour challenge is more than a swimming activity. It is a call to action for individuals, families, schools, swimming communities, and organisations to become part of the wider effort to prevent drowning.
By learning essential water-safety practices, promoting swimming skills, and knowing how to respond in emergencies, communities can become better prepared around water.
